    About Towable Heaters

The construction industry uses towable heaters to help control environmental conditions on cold-weather jobsites. Whether you need to maintain a minimum temperature to cure concrete, thaw ground, preheat forms, or just temporarily heat a large work area, a towable heater is the right tool for the job. These powerful heaters on a trailer may run on cold-weather diesel fuel, fuel oil, natural gas, or propane to provide heat where it’s needed most.

    Towable Heater Options

New and used towable heaters come in surface and air heater varieties, and some models can switch between surface and air heating duties. Some towable heaters, like the Allmand Maxi-Heat MH500iQ, for example, heat large quantities of air as it blows through the unit and direct the heat outward through flexible ducting. Others heat and circulate a propylene glycol and water mix through thousands of feet of hose, which can be arranged across the desired heating area or used to pump heat into an existing hot-water heating system. Still other units let operators reverse the flow of the heating fluid periodically, thereby providing a more uniform heating pattern.

    Surface Heater Features

With surface heaters like the Wacker Neuson E3000, manufacturers typically integrate hoses that allow a warm or hot fluid to pump through the tubing and transfer heat to the surface. Towable heater manufacturers generally provide handy heating charts to help operators optimize surface control. For example, based on the frost depth, there will be charts to cover the ideal hose spacing. Surface heating can also be adjusted to suit certain types of jobs. When curing concrete, for example, the surface heating may be limited to 26 degrees Celsius (80 degrees Fahrenheit) to prevent moisture from evaporating if the concrete gets too hot. Towable heat manufacturers will also typically list the amount of surface area (in square feet) the heater can support.
