    About Floaters

Capable of rapid transport speeds and rapid operation in the field, floaters are self-propelled chemical applicators designed to apply liquid and/or dry crop care products in fields and pastures. Floaters are generally equipped with large, wide tires that minimize soil compaction in the field. Some manufacturers offer three- and four-wheel floaters, and the best configuration for your operation depends largely on the terrain in your fields.

    Advancing Technology

From split applications to mixing of nutrients, modern floaters can help growers accurately apply fertilizer prescriptions to optimize yields and plant safety. Some models can apply as many as six products simultaneously—many floaters now support both wet and dry delivery systems—to quickly apply the right nutrients in one pass. And with the addition of GPS, built-in sprayer cameras, tank readouts, and easy-to-use cab controls, operators can accurately apply nutrients in key crop production areas, improving application accuracy, increasing efficiency, and supporting stewardship of the land.

    Productivity Improvements

Floaters’ high-efficiency application lets operators quickly apply nutrients when and where they are needed most. To further increase efficiency, floater manufacturers have begun to expand tank sizes (larger models may equip tanks that hold up to 7,500 litres (2,000 gallons), extend boom lengths (often up to 36.5 metres, or 120 feet), and improve nozzle technology to more quickly and precisely apply both pre- and post-emergent products. Electronic sensors further help operators monitor application levels and eliminate guesswork, while auto-guidance systems take the best possible route through the field, helping get more done in less time and preventing skips and overlaps.

    Three- & Four-Wheel Differences

Three-wheel floaters are designed to avoid double run-over, while four-wheel models provide greater stability, which can be a concern in fields with rolling terrain. Precision balance on both three- and four-wheel options helps limit ground compaction and crop damage.
