    About Motor Graders

Motor graders, sometimes called “road graders” or just “graders,” are one of the most common and easy identifiable pieces of heavy machinery there are, whether they’re designed and used for road construction or snow removal, or for agricultural, forestry, or mining applications. With operating weights ranging from less than 16,000 to more than 68,000 kilograms (35,000 to 150,000 pounds), motor graders consist of a cab, a moldboard (or blade), a circle drive, a drawbar, and other components that collectively work to help operators maintain existing gravel and dirt roads and provide flat, even surface grades to new paved road projects.

    Motor Grader Applications

Motor graders can also come in handy for tearing up hard ground when equipped with a ripper attachment. You’ll find graders in smaller sizes offering good manoeuvrability in tighter work spaces and in larger, more powerful variants that are able to move more material per pass. In short, motor graders are the machines crews call in to provide a finishing grade after bulldozers and other heavy machines do the rougher grunt work.

    Motor Grader Basics

In addition to blades ranging from about 2.4 to 7.3 metres (8 to 24 feet) wide, motor graders variously incorporate steering wheel and joystick control systems, all-wheel-drive capability, and Tier 4 Final and Stage V engines that generate anywhere from around 100 to 500 horsepower (75 to 373 kilowatts). Motor graders can also equip front blades, scarifiers, and other attachments, expanding their utility even more.

    Technology, Comfort & More

Modern motor graders are increasingly equipped with features designed to simplifying operations, maintenance, and repairs while making the working environment more comfortable and efficient. Examples include high-visibility cabs with air suspension seating, ergonomically designed control consoles, touchscreen displays, rearview mirrors, and heating and cooling systems. Many also come equipped with automation and other technologies, including telematics and monitoring systems, sensors, grade and slope control, auto articulation, dual-mode transmissions, and fans that can reverse to clear excess dust and other debris. Deere’s line of SmartGrade Motor Graders, for example, feature a mastless grade control system the manufacturer says boosts productivity and efficiency.

    Find The Right Motor Grader

You’ll commonly find a wide range of motor graders for sale on MarketBook.ca from leading manufacturers such as Case, Caterpillar, Champion, Deere, Fiatallis, Galion, Komatsu, Volvo, and others.
