    About Row Crop Headers

A row crop header is a combine harvester attachment that works in much the same way as a platform header but has points, or snouts, between each row that gather row crops and guide them to the cutterbar.

    About Row Crop Headers

Headers are attachments built to work with self-propelled and pull-type harvesters; they’re designed to cut crops down and move them into the harvester where they can be processed for sale or storage. How headers do this, though, varies by type: You’ll find corn, sunflower, grain, draper, rigid, flex, bean, pickup, dummy, auger, and other header types for sale, but MarketBook breaks them into three main categories: row crop, platform, and forage. Row crop headers are developed specifically to tackle row crops such as corn.

Gleaner 3300 Command Series Corn Header

Compared to platform headers that use a wide wheel, cutter bar, and auger or draper system to collect, cut, and convey the crop into the combine, row crop headers work similarly but feature multiple snouts, or what look like spikes or fingers. These run between the crop rows and guide the plants into a combination of rollers, knives, chains, belts, and/or other components that gather, pull back, and cut or snap the plant, stripping the stalk and leaving it behind while directing the corn, soybeans, sunflower, or other crop to an auger and into the combine.

    Specialised Features

You’ll find row crop headers dedicated to specific crops, such as corn headers, while others provide all-around crop ability and can handle sunflower, sorghum, millet, and other crops. Modern row crop headers offer an assortment of features and technologies that make operators’ lives easier while enhancing harvesting efficiency. Modern New Holland headers, for example, have shorter snouts that provide better ground-following ability and thus run down less of your crop. Additionally, New Holland’s newer corn headers more readily expose the snout’s gathering chains for better gathering of downed corn.

John Deere and other manufacturers offer both rigid and folding corn heads. Deere offers its CR and CF headers in working widths up to 18 rows. CF-series headers fold for easy transport between fields and then quickly unfold when it’s time to go to work, resulting in more crops harvested per day and better visibility in tight spaces. Case IH’s corn headers, meanwhile, include a narrow row configuration option with 51- or 56-centimetre (20- or 22-inch) row spacing designed for cleaner picking, faster harvesting, and better down picking. Case IH’s headers also feature a lighter design that helps reduce soil compaction.

Find The Right Row Crop Header

You’ll find a large selection of new and used row crop headers for sale every day on MarketBook from popular manufacturers including Case IH, Drago, Geringhoff, Gleaner, John Deere, New Holland, and others.
