Peerless Live Floor Transport Trailer

Live-floor trailers offer quick unloading without tipping or dumping when hauling loose material such as asphalt, grain, gravel, soil, construction debris, or a number of other types of materials. A live-floor trailer (also commonly referred to as a “walking-floor trailer,” “live-bottom trailer,” or “self-unloading trailer”) often uses a conveyor belt or some other type of system run by hydraulics that slides the floor rearward to push or slide the load out of the trailer at a controlled pace.

Construction & Features

Most live-floor trailers are constructed of aluminum, steel, stainless steel, or some combination thereof. KNL Holdings’ Peerless live-floor trailers, for instance, are built from aluminum with internal I-beams and posts that provide the structural rigidity needed to haul full loads. The manufacturer says its mitered front ends cut wind resistance and lower fuel costs. Its live floors consist of 24 channels, each of which moves 10 inches to the rear to unload, with every third channel retracting until all are once again in original position and can move to the rear once more. Peerless says this mechanism allows operators to empty an entire trailer load out through the trailers’ top-hinged rear door in eight to 12 minutes.
