About Multiquip Power Systems
Since its founding in Long Beach, California, in 1973, Multiquip has become a lauded source of power generators, light towers, and a broad range of medium and light construction equipment. Irv Levine started the company to distribute Mikasa rammer compactors, which he had introduced to the United States market a couple years prior while working for the leasing and rental company that would later become United Rentals. In 1979, Multiquip moved its headquarters to Carson, California. The company began to distribute quiet portable generators through a new MQ Power section in 1985.

The Modern Multiquip
Multiquip is now a subsidiary of Itochu Corporation of Tokyo, Japan, and has distribution partners in more than 70 countries and locations in Shanghai, Montreal, Manchester, and Puebla, Mexico. In the United States, Multiquip boasts facilities in Boise, Idaho; Lewisville, Texas; and Danville, Kentucky. The company employs more than 400 workers, and manufactures additional equipment under the MQ Power, Whiteman, Mayco, and Essick brands.
Multiquip Generators
Multiquip generator sets range from 2.3-kilowatt portables up to 2,000-kW containerized units mounted on semi-trailers. Towable and stationary models are available, as well. There are options in the lineup for 120- and 240-volt single-phase applications, as well as 208-, 277-, and 480-V triple-phase requirements.
Fuel options include gasoline, diesel, and natural gas to suit local availability and noise restrictions. (MQ Power WhisperWatt systems are also said to be a very quiet option.) Engines for the company’s generator sets are built by manufacturers such as Honda, Cummins, and Kubota. Multiquip also sells automatic diesel exhaust fluid-replenishment systems to keep diesel generators running continuously.
In addition, the company makes specialty generators for entertainment and special events, including studio inverters for use in filmmaking. For contractors who need extra versatility, meanwhile, there’s a high-cycle GDP5HA model that can produce 180-hertz power for concrete vibrators, as well as 60-Hz power for standard power tools.
