Non Code Tank Trailers
Non-code tank semitrailers can carry non-hazardous liquid or dry cargo including fertilizer, water, and more. They are typically available as fifth-wheel models with aluminum, steel, or stainless steel tanks and two or three axles.
Read More (About Non-Code Tank Semitrailers)Non-code tank semitrailers can carry many types of non-hazardous (non-flammable, non-corrosive) liquid and dry bulk substances, as opposed to code tank trailers that must be tested for a pressure rating and/or certified for a particular use. Non-code trailers are often used to transport fertilizer, water, and other liquid cargo such as urea, liquid feed for livestock, detergent, lime slurry for pH treatment, and more.
Some models are insulated and can haul hot materials such as asphalt or sulphur. Others are suitable for carrying dry cargo such as plastic pellets, sand, cement, gravel, and other loose, bulk materials. Depending on its previous cargo, a non-code trailer can be washed out and used to haul different types of non-hazardous goods, increasing its versatility.
Non-code tank semitrailers are typically fifth-wheel models with tandem or tridem axles. Their tanks are made of aluminum, (carbon) steel, or stainless steel. Tanks are commonly available in capacities such as 19,000, 23,000, 26,500, or 28,500 litres (5,000, 6,000, 7,000, or 7,500 gallons).
Some non-code trailers have a straight, round tank with a cylindrical shape. Others have a double conical shape with a modestly V-shaped bottom as viewed from the side, which facilitates drainage of the cargo. A version with a more pronounced V-bottom is called a deep-drop tank. Whereas a double conical tank may have a floor that slopes 305 millimetres (12 inches) lower at the center discharge point, a deep drop tank’s floor may be more like 762 mm (30 in.) lower to make it easier to drain gravel, pellets, and other granular dry goods.
Non-code tanks may have internal compartments to keep their loads separated, so a trailer may haul more than one type of payload at a time. These are sometimes called “compartmentalized” or “combined cargo” tankers. Many non-code tanks with only one or two compartments have anti-surge baffles or bulkheads that prevent liquids from doing too much sloshing about and radically shifting the trailer’s center of gravity during transport, which could cause it to tip over or lengthen its braking distance.
