New Holland T7 Methane Power LNG Tractor Wins 2023 Green Good Design Award For Sustainable Design
New Holland's T7 Methane Power LNG tractor has been awarded a Green Good Design Award by the Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design and The European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies. The honor recognizes the “world’s first LNG tractor” as one of the most important examples of a sustainable design. Introduced in December, the tractor follows in the footsteps of the New Holland T6 Methane Power, a commercially available tractor that runs on compressed natural gas (CNG).
“We are honored to receive this Green Good Design Award, an authority in the design sector, and even more proud that the recognition is given to such a groundbreaking prototype tractor set to represent a significant expansion in New Holland’s alternative energy tractor range,” says New Holland Agriculture President Carlo Lambro. “The New Holland T7 Methane Power LNG marries great design with great tech and innovation, the result of our continued investment of our energies in creating something that is not only useful, sustainable, and functional, but also beautiful to see. I want to thank all the teams who worked on this special project and, as always, our internal design teams for the great creative job.”
Green Good Design Awards
In its 15th year, the Green Good Design Awards is a special edition of the Good Design program, founded in Chicago in 1950 by Eero Saarinen and Charles and Ray Eames. The awards seek to raise public awareness of global companies adopting sustainable designs. Winners this year hail from more than 32 countries and include leading manufacturers, design firms, and Fortune 500 companies.
Inspired By Nature
CNH Industrial’s in-house design team created the T7 Methane Power LNG, incorporating a new “Clean Blue” color and an aesthetic that highlights its use of sustainable alternative fuels. Part of New Holland’s Carbon Neutral Farming effort, the tractor can run on liquefied biomethane sourced from livestock manure and slurry to deliver better than carbon-zero operation. CNH Industrial says repurposing waste this way sets the stage for developing a circular economy and helps its customers deliver a “local, clean energy revolution.”
The 270-horsepower (201-kilowatt) tractor boasts an all-new exterior inspired by nature and that fits in with New Holland’s new signature design style. Key design elements include a reimagined bonnet with an illuminated New Holland leaf logo and an LED running strip that wraps around the cab’s rear roof, which incorporates a full-length skydome for greater operator visibility and a greater sense of interior space. The cab is equipped with New Holland’s SideWinder Ultra armrest, customizable IntelliView 12-inch touchscreen, and CentreView fixed hub steering wheel-mounted display. Topping it all off are ergonomic seats covered in leather and Alcantara.
