Kuhn's latest hay merger heads are piquing the interest of commercial haying operations on generally flat terrain. The company’s new MM 890 SC Merge Maxx belt merger heads mount to the front of a self-propelled windrower, sitting in from in front of the operator for comfortable visibility and control. The center-delivery merger heads provide 24 feet (7.3 meters) of high-capacity pickup and are compatible with certain windrower models.
Kuhn Merger Head Design
The Kuhn MM 890 SC merger heads are gentle to the crop, with integrated pickup frames and crop netting to contain leaf loss at key junctures, such as during alfalfa’s move onto the belt and into the windrower. At the same time, Kuhn engineered the heads with anti-wrap discs and a split bearing design with wear guards for rugged reliability and lower maintenance requirements. The MM 890 SC also includes a floating windguard, so the heads can move to the next field to merge different crops and cuttings without the need for adjustment by the user.
Kuhn In-Cab Controls & OptiSense
Like other self-propelled, mounted Kuhn merger heads, the MM 890 SC includes a color display that lets the operator control the heads and view diagnostic information. An optional belt stall detection system, OptiSense, warns the user when too much crop intake starts to bog down the belt. The operator can use an in-cab ISOBUS terminal to control OptiSense, belt direction, and pickup speed.
