JCB’s 18Z-1 & 19C-1 Land In North America
Agriculture and construction equipment manufacturer JCB has finally brought its latest compact excavators to the U.S. and Canada. According to JCB, the 18Z-1 and 19C-1 are built to be durable and offer simplified maintenance, making them particularly attractive for the construction, landscaping, and rental industries.
Forward-Thinking Features
The two machines come with several shared features, including all-steel bodywork for maximum impact protection, durable design with protection for hydraulic rams and hoses, and 500-hour greasing intervals. Each also boasts a swing-out counterweight to provide full access to its engine bay, integrated tie-down points for easing transportation, and a two-year or 2,000-hour warranty, whichever comes first. The 18Z-1 and 19C-1 share a common undercarriage, a revised idler design that improves handling and reduces track stalling in loose material, and a redesigned dozer blade that offers easy-to-install dozer wings. Additionally, these excavators come with your choice of standard arms or long-reach arms, the latter of which allow improved near-machine digging.
The “big brother” of the pair is the 19C-1, which offers a 4,211-pound (1,910-kilogram) operating weight and a conventional tailswing. The more compact 18Z-1 has a 3,856-pound (1,749-kilogram) operating weight and features a zero tailswing, a first for JCB’s 1- to-2-ton class compact excavators.
The Power Behind The Throne
Under the hood, both machines feature a 23.1-horsepower (17.2-kilowatt) Perkins diesel engine. Other features include a new four-plate boom and dipper design, a 71-inch (1.8-meter) main boom, and support for a vast array of attachment brands. The redesigned cab and ROPS-rated canopy structures give the operator more leg and shoulder room. Driving these new machines is easier than ever thanks to a seating position the delivers full, 360-degree visibility.
