Heavy-Duty Kalmar Forklifts On Their Way To Ro-Ro Terminal Operator C.RO Ports
Forklift manufacturer Kalmar and C.RO Ports, a brand of C.RO and operator of ro-ro (roll-on/roll-off) terminals in the UK, the Netherlands, and Belgium, have completed an order that will send eight heavy-duty Kalmar forklifts to three of the Luxembourg-based company’s European ports. Delivery is set to be complete before year’s end and will include three forklifts for C.RO Ports’ Belgium terminal, two to terminals in the Netherlands, and three to terminals in the UK.
Kalmar Forklifts
Along with the eight forklifts, C.RO Ports’ order includes a Kalmar Complete Care service contract. Additionally, Kalmar says the machines will be connected to its Kalmar Insight performance-management tool that provides owners and operators with data to assist in operational decision-making. Established in 1973 but with company roots going back to 1883, Kalmar’s forklifts range from 5- to 72-ton offerings and include such models as the ECG50–90, DCG50–90, DCG90–180, and Kalmar Super Heavy Forklift.
In addition to forklifts, Kalmar also makes straddle and shuttle carriers, terminal tractors, yard cranes, ship-to-shore cranes, reach stackers, and empty container handlers for ports, logistics terminals, distribution centers, and more. The company recently announced a plan to bring to market the industry’s first medium-capacity electric forklift powered by an emission-free Li-ion battery technology.
A Repeat Customer
Paul Van Malderen, C.RO Ports COO, notes that his company has used Kalmar-manufactured machines for years. “The Tier 4-compliant engine technology in the new forklifts will help us to reduce emissions in the terminals and meet our sustainability targets, while the reverse-warning system and speed limiters will ensure we maintain our excellent safety standards,” he says.
