Deere Updates L-Series Loader Backhoes With New Engines, Transmissions, Lighting & More

    Posted On: November 23, 2020

John Deere recently unveiled several new updates coming to its L-Series backhoe loaders, including the new 4.5L PowerTech EWL engine for the 310L, 310SL, 315SL, 310SL HL, and 410L. (Photo courtesy of Deere & Company.)

John Deere recently announced several updates and upgrades coming to its L-Series backhoe loaders. One standout is that the 4.5-liter John Deere PowerTech EWL Tier 4 Final engine now comes standard on 310L, 310SL, 315SL, 310SL HL, and 410L machines. The higher-horsepower engine no longer requires an exhaust gas recirculation system and Deere relocated the fuel and diesel exhaust fluid filters for easier access. These improvements make the PowerTech EWL more reliable and easier to service.

Deere has also made a new LED boom light kit available across the lineup to improve visibility, and says that an update to the loader level linkage “reduces resistance and improves its throw and feel.” The 310SL, 315SL, 310SL HL, 410L, and 710L have also received AutoShift technology for enhanced transmission performance and Auto Ride Control technology to improve ride quality and cut down on front bucket material spillage.

    Model-Specific Updates

Out of all of the L-Series backhoe loaders, the 310 received the most attention; the 310L EP now has a redesigned front axle and comes standard with a four-speed manual synchromesh transmission. The 310SL now features a Lift Mode that automatically sets hydraulic pressure to a maximum of 4,000 psi and engine speed to 1,400 rpm; Deere says this can increase backhoe lift capacity by as much as 10% to 15%.

Previously an option just for the 310SL HL, 410L, and 710L models, John Deere’s PCLS hydraulics system is now available for the 310SL, as well. Deere says this technology improves backhoe control across the engine speed range for increased productivity, greater fuel efficiency, and reduced engine noise.

    “Power Through The Toughest Jobs”

“We are committed to continuously improving our equipment to offer our customers more value out of their machines,” says Brian Hennings, product manager for John Deere Construction & Forestry. “With these upgrades, we are directly addressing our customers’ needs. These upgrades build upon the best features found on the L-Series machines, resulting in a lineup designed to power through the toughest jobs.”
