Palfinger Innovates With New FHS Series Truck-Mounted Forklifts With Long Reach, 4-Way Driving
Palfinger is proud to announce its all-new FHS Series of truck-mounted forklifts. Each has a lift capacity in the 5,500-pound (2,495-kilogram) class, and is available with a 10- or 12-foot (3- or 3.7-meter) mast. The FHS line comprises four configurations: the Standard (FHS 55 STD), Standard Reach (FHS 55 P), 4-Way (FHS 55 4W), and 4-Way Reach (FHS 55 4WP) models.
The manufacturer says it developed the features of the innovative FHS Series using customer input.
“Our customers are always the center of our focus, because we can only deliver suitable products and solutions if we know their challenges," says Palfinger CEO Andreas Klauser.
FHS Features
The angularly styled FHS series offers more ground clearance at 11 inches (279 millimeters), a lower-profile engine hood, and a powder-coated chassis for durable protection. Palfinger’s Ground Control System with side-mounted operator controls, a standard feature, lets users mount and dismount the forklift from a truck or trailer without having to sit in the operator’s seat. The diesel fuel refill port is within reach whether the forklift is mounted or on the ground.
An FHS lift comes with a 25-degree swivel seat and three-point steps and grab handles to make entry and exit easier. An automatically closing side guard protects the operator.
Palfinger FHS forklifts have rollover protection system (ROPS)- and falling object protection system (FOPS)-approved overhead guards, LED work lights, and a Department of Transportation-compliant street lighting kit. All parts are protected from corrosion. The lifts are available with various tire and fork options.
Reach & 4-Way Models
Palfinger’s patented reach system allows the driver to offload a truck or trailer from one side, even in confined work areas. With the mast up against the side of the bed, the forks can extend to the centerline of the trailer, where they can lift, tilt, and side-shift full-capacity loads at maximum reach. The reach system also reduces the risk of damage to the pallet and truck bed.
The 4-Way (FHS 55 4W) and 4-Way Reach (FHS 55 4WP) models allow the operator to switch the steering to the front wheels for sideways driving with the flip of a switch. The 4-Way Reach lift in particular is adept at difficult, same-side loading and unloading situations, according to Palfinger. The entire FHS Series’ all-wheel braking is especially welcome on 4-Way models for its enhanced control.
Specifications
The four FHS models share most dimensions and specifications. The FHS 55 P Standard Reach model, for example, has a 5,500-lb lift capacity at a 24-in. (610-mm) load center. Being a Reach model, it can extend up to 51 in. (1,295 mm) across a truck bed. The forklift has a lift height of 120 in. (3,048 mm) with a 10-ft mast and 144 in. (3,658 mm) with a 12-ft mast.
The FHS 55 P Standard Reach is powered by a 56-horsepower (42-kilowatt), Tier 4 Final diesel engine. It has 180 degrees of hydrostatic steering and a turning radius of 75 in. (1,905 mm). The forklift has a maximum speed of 7 mph (11 km/h) and a maximum gradeability rating of 30%, which falls to 15% for its sibling models in four-way mode.
