Return Of The Construction King: Case Announces New Utility Plus, 580SV & 695SV Loader Backhoes
Case Construction Equipment is introducing five new loader backhoe models to the North American market, including several that revive Case’s “Construction King” appellation. The Case Utility Plus and the 580SV Construction King center-pivot model are available now. A side-shift version of the 580SV Construction King will arrive later in 2023, along with center-pivot and side-shift configurations of the larger 695SV Construction King.
The new Case loader backhoes aim to bring efficiency and lower owning and operating costs to landscaping, property management, agricultural, and utilities operations. They also allow a single operator to perform multiple functions on the work site, the manufacturer points out, which is an attractive feature for companies facing a shortage of skilled labor.
“With the introduction of these new machines, matched with our existing lineup of N Series backhoes, we’re delivering a truly diverse backhoe portfolio of machines for contractors and businesses of all sizes in North America,” says Case Construction Equipment Product Manager George MacIntyre.
The Case Utility Plus
The new 74-horsepower (55-kilowatt) Case Utility Plus backhoe has a maximum digging depth of 14.42 feet (4.39 meters) and easy service requirements. Its FPT diesel engine has a maintenance-free emissions system with no diesel particulate filter (DPF) and no diesel exhaust fluid (DEF).
The Utility Plus gives the operator excellent sightlines to all work areas, Case says. A large, enclosed cabin is available as an alternative to the standard canopy. The machine is available with either mechanical controls for a traditional feel, or pilot controls which are more accessible to rental customers and newer operators.
“You could call this an entry-level machine—but it performs and delivers options like a full-sized backhoe,” says MacIntyre. “We’ve built it so that you can focus on simplicity, ideal for rental applications and businesses where this isn’t a daily production tool, but also committed to options such as the Extendahoe and attachment performance via one-way auxiliary hydraulics on the dipper for businesses that want to use this machine for more. It’s built to be versatile and allow equipment owners to build up from a simple base model.”
The Case 580SV Construction King
Available now in a center-pivot configuration, the 580SV Construction King reintroduces a tool carrier-style front end to Case’s North American backhoe lineup. It can use 4-in-1 and 6-in-1 buckets with a dig depth of 14.42 ft and has a hydraulic quick coupler for use with myriad attachments. However, it’s ideal for moving pallets and bundled pipe with a set of forks, Case says.
“At 97 horsepower, the CASE 580SV Construction King is a simple yet robust addition to any backhoe fleet and, like the Utility Plus, can be optioned up into a more premium backhoe experience with features such as the Extendahoe and Auto-Ride Control,” MacIntyre says.
Upcoming Models
The side-shift edition of the 580SV Construction King, coming later this year, can work in confined spaces and has inline vertical stabilizers for offset digging.
“The combination of inline stabilizers and a backhoe digging boom that can shift from side to side allows operators to get right up against buildings and structures, and takes up even less space on roadside applications with stabilizers that operate within the footprint of the machine,” says MacIntyre.
Also on the horizon in 2023 is the larger and more powerful Case 695SV Construction King in center-pivot and side-shift versions. The 695SV has equally sized tires and four-wheel steering, which help it maneuver for loader and backhoe attachment switches as well as loading operations. Its parallel-lift, tool carrier-style loader arms are well-suited to material-handling work, according to Case.
The version of the 695SV currently available on the European market has a diesel engine with up to 119 HP (89 kW) and a powershift transmission. “It’s perfect for municipalities and larger construction sites that need to effectively perform both loader and backhoe operations,” says MacIntyre.
