Cummins B6.7N Natural Gas Engine Now Available On Peterbilt Model 536 & 537 Trucks
Peterbilt is expanding the natural gas powertrain options for its medium-duty Model 536 and Model 537 trucks to include Cummins B6.7N engines, which emit 50% lower NOx emissions than current EPA standards. The B6.7N engines produce between 200 to 240 horsepower (149 to 179 kilowatts) and peak torque ratings from 520 to 560 pounds-foot (705 to 759 newton-meters). Medium-duty operators looking for a bit more power from a Cummins natural gas engine can still select the L9N engines rated for 300 to 320 HP (224 to 239 kW) and peak-torque of 860 to 1,000 lbf-ft (1,166 to 1,356 N-m).
“Natural gas engine offerings have been part of the Peterbilt portfolio since the introduction of our first CNG-powered vehicles in 2007,” says Peterbilt Chief Engineer Scott Newhouse. “The introduction of the B6.7N is the latest example of our environmental stewardship and ongoing commitment sustainability, extending our near-zero emissions solutions to more applications.”
The Medium-Duty Model 536
Peterbilt designed the Model 536 for non-CDL applications, such as pick-up and delivery jobs. The updated cab is 8 inches wider to comfortably accommodate up to three people and includes a 7-inch digital display that provides drivers with easy access to vehicle information. Drivers will also appreciate the 536’s 55-degree wheel cut and 51-ft (15.5-m) turning radius. Peterbilt offers the 536 in two hood lengths, two roof heights, and with multiple fuel and DEF tank configurations to best suit your operational needs.
Heavy-Duty Natural Gas
Cummins ISX12N availability on Peterbilt’s Model 520, Model 567, and Model 579 provides a low-emission option for Peterbilt’s heavy-duty truck range. The ISX12N delivers 400 HP (298 kW) and 1,450 lbf-ft (1,966 N-m) of torque. Peterbilt released a new version of the Model 579 early in 2021, equipping the truck with several aerodynamic components, while making the long-haul truck’s cab quieter and more comfortable. Available cabs on the Model 579 include a day cab or one of the many sleeper options, including the 80-in. (203-centimeter) UltraLoft.
